Steam chests

We supply steam chests produced by powder metallurgically based hot isostatic pressing (PM HIP). The steam chest is a cylindrical part of a turbine with extremely complex geometry including internal cavities.
Sandvik HIP products acquired by MTC
Sandvik’s HIP products has been acquired by MTC from April 6, 2020. Over the coming months MTC will be integrating the Sandvik portfolio, to provide a smooth transition for customers. During the integration period, the full line of Sandvik HIP products will continue to be accessible on this website, or via the MTC website.

The conventional way of producing this type of component is to cast, forge, machine, weld and machine again, with the risk of having porosity or segregated parts in the center of the product.
Reduced machining costs
The PM HIP technology makes it possible to achieve equal properties in all parts of the product, almost independently of the product size. It also avoids excessive and costly material loss resulting from machining. By designing the can close to the finished size, including internal cavities, the machining cost of the part is kept to a minimum.
