Teaming up to meet fierce demands

The new governmental regulations that Emerson Climate Technology had to work with included an energy efficiency improvement of 15% when a major customer in the Middle East ordered a new set of compressors for residential air-conditioning systems.

The Emerson engineering team in India had to make modifications to several parts of the compressor system, but one important contribution needed to come from the valve.

To achieve a faster operating valve and reduce valve losses, a thinner material was essential and Sandvik Hiflex test results showed it had the potential to make it work. Emerson engineers got together with Sandvik’s materials experts and developed proposals for valve designs which brought compressor models to the new energy-efficiency standard needed for air-conditioners.
