Material selection is a key factor when designing new solutions or facing corrosion in the petrochemical industry. The technical challenges are often complex and include a combination of different corrosion types such as pitting and crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking (SCC), and general corrosion in acidic environments. Additionally, high mechanical strength at maximum application temperature is also crucial and can i.e. reduce wall thicknesses and increase the heat transfer in heat exchangers. These challenges require good process control and advanced materials.
Sanicro® 35 (UNS N08935) is a new grade with corrosion and mechanical properties comparable to highly alloyed nickel-based alloys. With a well-balanced composition of 35Ni-30Fe-27Cr-6.5Mo-0.3N, high structure stability, a PREN* of 52 and CPT 110°C in ASTM G150mod it is suitable for many different applications with demanding corrosive challenges.
