Sandvik named finalist in the Swedish Arts and Business Awards 2011

Today it was announced that the Research and Development Collaboration between Sandvik Materials Technology and the Vasa Museum on Vasa bolt replacement has qualified for the finals of Kultur och Näringsliv, The Swedish Arts and Business Awards 2011.

The cooperation, which grew out of a discussion of what material would be suitable to replace the iron bolts that are corroding in Vasa's hull, is one of three finalists in the competition grants, which aim to promote a closer cooperation between culture and business. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Gothenburg on 22 March.

The organizers, Kultur och Näringsliv, are very pleased with the quality of this year's contributions to the contest:

- This year's entries displayed a very high quality. A trend that is consistent when looking at the developments in the field of cultural sponsorship and cultural communication, says Hanna Strömberg, Regional Director for Kultur och Näringsliv in Western Sweden.

The jury's justification for the nomination:

"The project provides an excellent example of how you combine the technical excellence of yesterday with the one of today. A unique long-term collaboration between one of Sweden's most prestigious engineering companies and the Swedish historical national treasure. "(Source: Kultur och Näringsliv)
