New finishing line increases capacity for high-alloyed tubes and bar at Sandvik

Culmination of a two-year investment program at Sandvik Materials Technology sees the opening of a new, state-of-the-art finishing line in Sandviken, Sweden, significantly increasing the plant's capacity for high-alloyed tubes and bar.

"This is an extremely important, strategic investment to further strengthen Sandvik Materials Technology's position as a supplier of high-alloyed tubes and bar," explained Sandvik Materials Technology's President Petra Einarsson.

The investment includes the addition of six new machines within the peeling and finishing area in Sandviken, Sweden.

Declaring the large investment a milestone for the company, Petra Einarsson, added, "It significantly speeds up our capability to produce more advanced, high-alloyed materials completely eliminating what was once a bottleneck in production for the important tube and bar flow. Peeling and finishing of such products is more critical, and hence more time consuming.

"Investment in the new plant makes it possible for us to increase capacity dramatically and provides us with the ability to switch our product mix towards more advanced products. This is completely in line with our strategic direction of growth, for example, in the oil and gas segment."

The new machines also mean a significantly improved and safer working environment for employees.
