Three ways to aim higher while going deeper in offshore APAC

The global offshore industry is welcoming a return to confidence. In Asia Pacific specifically, an increase in demand for hydrocarbons, improvements in technology and more cost-efficient working practices have led to a greater interest in extreme deep and ultra deepwater plays. As a result, several projects in extreme locations that had previously been shelved or abandoned due to cost constraints are now reaching the final investment decision stage.

Below are three things to keep in mind as projects move further and deeper offshore in the region.

  • Use extreme materials
Longer subsea tiebacks. Higher pressure. Hot and sour wells. Your products should not only withstand these extreme challenges, but exceed them. Control lines need to reach deeper and be more precise, and umbilicals need stronger, thinner walls to meet the systemic pressure at greater depths.
  • Use a local service provider
A local service provider is key to faster delivery of products and services, including end-to-end control line and chemical injection line solutions – from warehousing facilities to plastic extrusion capabilities for flat packs, TEC lines and hydrostatic testing.
  • Routinely evaluate materials
To push limits offshore, you should constantly question and evaluate the capabilities of the products you’re using to make sure it exceeds the toughest demands. Look for products that set industry standards and enable efficient operations in the most extreme environments.
