Q – Can you tell us about yourself and your background?

A - I was born in Toledo, Ohio in the United States and my family moved to Pennsylvania when I was about four and a half years old. After high school, I applied for a job at Sandvik because It was close to home and it seemed like a really good company to work for. My neighbor and my cousin were actually foremen at Sandvik at the time, so they hired me on the spot and brought me aboard.

When Greg is not at work, he is at his gym teaching martial arts. He started boxing when he was four years old and is currently a Grandmaster 10th dan.

Q - Tell us about your journey at Sandvik. What roles have you held?

A – In 1971, I started in the wire finishing department and then moved to logistics, eventually becoming lead of traffic. I really enjoyed logistics more than wire finishing because it was a more active position. Most recently, I became the lead shipper, which involves knowing exactly all the current jobs we have in the system, what needs to be done and then passing this information to the teams, ensuring that all jobs have been assigned to the right people. Once that’s done, I usually work on the remaining jobs to complete everything for our customers.

Q - What does Sandvik bring to the industry?

A - Sandvik is very well known in the steel industry. The company has a legacy and expertise within this field. The quality of our products is exceptional, and the company adapts depending on the requirements and any external restrictions that are put in place. From mining to medical supplies, Sandvik amplifies the possibilities. The quality of the steel and the materials used speak for themselves.

Q - Have your perspectives of the industry changed over the years?

A - It’s definitely a more technologically advanced industry now. Everything used to be printed, there was a lot of paperwork and it was all hands-on but now it’s very technical. It’s definitely better, but it did also take some time to get used to for me. The younger engineers coming in to the industry today are used to it because they grew up with technology, but we adapt as we need to. Since these technological advancements, it has also enabled us to take on a lot more work than when I first started at the company.

Q - Do you have a favorite memory from your career at Sandvik?

A - I’ve made a lot of memories and a lot of friends throughout my time with the company. The culture at Sandvik is to work hard but also enjoy what you do and who you do it with. We take care of each other; if someone needs a hand we help them out. If I’m finished for the day I’ll help someone out with their work and that’s just the way we do it, we’re a team.
