We are expanding our high-performance family of Sanicro® nickel alloys to give you more options for bar and hollow bar. Ideal for machining critical components, this portfolio builds on our 60-year legacy of providing high-performance tube in similar grades. In 2021, we introduced Sanicro® 825 bar and hollow bar, and we’ll continue to roll out new corrosion-resistant alloys to help reduce machining costs, simplify welding and fabrication.


New Sanicro® 625 bar – the gold standard

When failure is not an option, our new Sanicro® 625 bar (Grade 1) is a safe and reliable choice. This tough super alloy (UNS N06625) offers high strength, extraordinary corrosion resistance, good fabricability and excellent welding properties. Regarded as “the gold standard” of nickel alloys, Sanicro® 625 stands up to acids, alkalis, seawater, and other wet corrosive conditions in both cryogenic environments and temperatures up to 593°C (1100°F). The bar is available in OD 3 to 9 inches (76.2 – 228.6 mm), with production based on 84% recycled steel and fossil-free energy.

Demanding critical components

Our growing Sanicro® range is welcome news for fabricators of critical components exposed to chlorides, hydrogen sulfide and other chemical compounds or gases in hot corrosive environments. Typical components include flanges, valves, discs, fittings, couplings, rings, seals, bolts, nuts, shafts and forgings. Common industries served include geothermal, oil and gas, solar and petrochemicals, with end uses ranging from offshore piping systems and heat exchangers to waste heat recovery systems.

Meet NACE, ISO, ASME and ASTM standards

All Sanicro® bar and hollow bar products are manufactured at our fully integrated steel mill, allowing for full traceability from melt to final bar. To meet key ASTM, ISO, ASME and NACE standards, we perform comprehensive tests for tensile strength, hardness, grain size and intergranular corrosion. Hollow bar standards include: ASTM B423 / ASME SB 423; NACE MR0175/ISO15156 and MR0103/ISO17945; API 6A. Bar standards include ASTM B425 /ASME SB 425 and more (download the datasheet for a complete list).

In stock or custom orders

As we expand our Sanicro® range, the ambition is to provide an in-stock selection of the most common dimensions.

Currently, our stock selection ranges from 20 to 260 millimeters (0.787 – 10.24 inches) in three to seven-meter lengths (118.11– 257.6 inches), depending on the diameter. However, depending on the size, we can also do custom orders, so please don’t hesitate to call us.

Product range overview

Sanicro® 825

Sanicro® 825 (UNS N08825), our first-ever nickel-iron-chromium alloy in bar and hollow bar, is ideal for tough acidic, alkali and seawater conditions. As our entry-level grade, it offers a cost-efficient alternative to Alloy 625 and Alloy 718, with far better corrosion resistance than 316L and 904L. The hollow bar option cuts machining costs in half, with easier welding and fabrication as well.

Sanicro® 625

Sanicro® 625 (UNS N06625) is our extremely versatile bar for components exposed to a wide range of severely corrosive environments. It stands up well to acids and alkalis in oxidizing and reducing conditions. With a PRE ≥ 48, it also offers high resistance to pitting and corrosion and is virtually immune to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. The yield strength is double that of Sanicro® 825, with excellent mechanical properties, at both high and low temperatures.

Sanicro® 925

Sanicro® 925 (UNS N09925) is an age-hardened version of Sanicro® 825 that will offer roughly four times the strength of this entry-level nickel alloy. We are currently testing and qualifying this bar and hollow bar with our technical partners and plan to make it available in 2022-23. Please stay tuned for further details.

Sanicro® 718

Sanicro® 718 (UNS N07718) is our forthcoming new grade of bar and hollow bar that will offer significantly higher strength and hardness properties than all other Sanicro grades. This grade is now undergoing rigorous testing with our technical partners and will be introduced in 2022-23, so please stay tuned.

PRE >32.8 beats industry standard

The chemical composition of Sanicro® 825 has been optimized by our R&D team to give unique properties to the bar and hollow bar. By adding slightly more Cr and Mo, for example, we’ve been able to secure a Pitting Equivalent Number of PRE >32.8, which beats the industry standard. With nickel levels always above 40%, the product is virtually immune to stress corrosion cracking (SCC), compared to AISI 316L and AISI 904L (see diagram).

Reduce machining cost by 50%

By using hollow bar, machining costs are reduced by a least 50%. This is due to reduced need for drilling, boring and other fabrication steps. Whether it’s a flange, valve or fitting, you will arrive at net shape a lot faster. We can then provide recommendations for optimal cutting tools and speeds through Sandvik Coromant, our world-leading machining business area.

Titanium stabilized for welding

Intergranular corrosion can be a risk during welding. To eliminate this issue, Sanicro® 825 is titanium-stabilized to give high structural stability and eliminate the formation of intermetallic phases at elevated temperatures. Even at the heaviest sizes, Sanicro® 825 can be welded without the risk of carbide precipitation, causing intergranular corrosion. We recommend tungsten arc welding (TIG/GTAW9).

ASTM UNS N06625 bar with 62% nickel content

Many of our customers, particularly in the energy sector, have requested a machining material that is “immune” to wet corrosive conditions. So, we are introducing Sanicro® 625 (ASTM "Grade 1" in the soft annealed condition). Our R&D team optimized the chemical composition to achieve maximum strength – derived from a stiffening effect of 8.5% molybdenum and 3.5% niobium on its nickel-chromium matrix. They then added a full 62% nickel content, making it virtually immune to stress corrosion cracking. In short, a safe bet for the most challenging of environments.

Made to last – tested and approved

We are obsessive about quality. Before leaving our mill, Sanicro® 625 bar must undergo a battery of tests to meet the most rigorous standards for tensile strength, hardness, impact strength, intergranular corrosion and grain size. To avoid intergranular corrosion, for example, we stabilize the material with 3.5% niobium and use an extra-low carbon content ≤0.025%. Then we use the “Streicher test” with sulfuric acid for 120 hours according to ASTM G-28 Method A – just one example of how we secure the very highest level of quality of our nickel alloys.

Versatile solution for renewable energy

Sanicro® 625 is a versatile alloy that can be used in a wide range of industries and applications. Recently, we’ve noted a surge of interest for renewable energy applications, such as geothermal, solar and waste heat recovery – applications where molten salts, minerals and other deposits can create corrosion issues. Here, our usage of 84% recycled steel and fossil-free energy in a circular production process may support your overall sustainability goals.
