IT’S HERE! Sanicro® 825 (Alloy 825) is our first-ever nickel-iron-chromium alloy in both bar and hollow bar for tough acidic and seawater conditions. With a nickel content of >40%, it offers a cost-efficient alternative to superalloys like Alloys 625 and 718, with far better corrosion resistance than 316L or 904L. The hollow bar option cuts machining costs in half, with easier welding and fabrication as well.

To meet customer requests, we are expanding our Sanicro® family of multi-purpose nickel alloys and high-alloy stainless steels. One valued new member is Sanicro® 825 in bar and hollow bar, a tough, all-around performer that offers excellent corrosion resistance in acids and alkalis under both oxidizing and reducing conditions. It also provides excellent corrosion resistance in media containing phosphoric, nitric, sulfuric, and organic acids – not to mention seawater, caustic chloride alkalis, and ammoniac media.

Demanding critical components

Sanicro® 825 is welcome news for fabricators of critical components exposed to chlorides, hydrogen sulfide and more in hot corrosive environments. These include flanges, valves and discs, fittings, couplings, rings and seals, bolts and nuts, shafts and forgings. End applications cover everything from offshore piping systems, heat exchangers, waste heat recovery exchangers and more.

Meet NACE, ISO, ASME and ASTM standards

Sanicro® 825 is manufactured at our fully integrated steel mill, allowing for full traceability from melt to final bar. To meet key ASTM, ISO, ASME and NACE standards, we perform comprehensive tests for tensile strength, hardness, grain size and intergranular corrosion. Hollow bar standards include: ASTM B423 / ASME SB 423; NACE MR0175/ISO15156 and MR0103/ISO17945; API 6A. Bar standards include ASTM B425 /ASME SB 425 and more (see datasheet for complete list).

In stock or custom orders

As we expand our Sanicro® 825 range, the ambition is to provide an in-stock selection of the most common dimensions.

Currently, our stock selection ranges from 20 to 260 millimeters (0.787 – 10.24 inches) in three to seven-meter lengths (118.11– 257.6 inches), depending on the diameter. However, depending on the size, we can also do custom orders, so please don’t hesitate to call us.

PRE >32.8 beats industry standard

The chemical composition has been optimized by our R&D team to give unique properties to the bar and hollow bar. By adding slightly more Cr and Mo, for example, we’ve been able to secure a Pitting Equivalent Number of PRE >32.8, which beats the industry standard. With nickel levels always above 40%, the tube is virtually immune to stress corrosion cracking (SCC), compared to AISI 316L and AISI 904L (see diagram).

Reduce machining cost by 50%

By using hollow bar, machining costs are reduced by a least 50%. This is due to reduced need for drilling, boring and other fabrication steps. Whether it’s a flange, valve or fitting, you will arrive at net shape a lot faster. We can then provide recommendations for optimal cutting tools and speeds through Sandvik Coromant, our world-leading machining business area.

Titanium stabilized for welding

Intergranular corrosion can be a risk during welding. To eliminate this issue, Sanicro® 825 is titanium-stabilized to give high structural stability and eliminate the formation of intermetallic phases at elevated temperatures. Even at the heaviest sizes, Sanicro® 825 can be welded without the risk of carbide precipitation, causing intergranular corrosion. We recommend tungsten arc welding (TIG/GTAW9).
